Looking for ways to make money as a stay at home mom?
If you’re a stay at home mom who wants to be able to earn some money while being home with your kids then keep reading.
If you’re looking for real, non-scammy ways to make money on your own schedule then this is for you.
I have some REAL LEGIT ways for you to earn some extra income that doesn’t involve selling to your friends and family or recruiting people for you to make money.
While this is just a small list of the ones I think are best for stay at home moms, I do have more ideas over on my money making ideas page.
HOW TO EARN MONEY AS A STAY AT HOME MOM
For this list, I tried to include different ideas for different personality types so that you can find something that fits you or maybe a few things that fit you and your schedule.
SELL STUFF ONLINE
I know I said no selling to friends and I’m not suggesting that! But selling your used items online to people who are looking for them, is actually quite profitable and easier than you may think.
I added this one first because it’s probably the quickest and easiest way to make some extra cash.
This one is actually a really great option because as a mom your kids go through a ton of clothes and toys and rather than just having them sit there, you can sell them online (yes people buy used items all the time online).
You can sell clothes and small home items on an app called Poshmark (check out my experience here) and Mercari. It’s really easy, the app does most of the work!
Below are just some of the items I sold on Poshmark in the last year. As you can see, I sold everything from clothes to shoes to makeup.
So far as of the date of this blog post, I’ve made $341. Now you may not think that’s a lot but it will all depend on how much stuff you can list.
If once you sell things around the house, you find you love selling on Poshmark, they have the option to open up a boutique which could be a good side hustle.
Don’t forget to check out my Poshmark experience where I share tips and tricks on how to post your items, get free boxes, and more.
TIP! Sign Up for Poshmark using my referral code: ESAVINGSBLOG and get a $5 Credit! Sign up here.
If you have larger items around the house that you want to sell, you can sell them on eBay, Facebook Marketplace, and apps like Offerup.
In my post How to Sell Stuff Online, I go over many ways you can sell things around your house for money. Check that out here if you want to find out more about this option.

If you’re opposed to selling online and just want some quick cash you can visit your local consignment shop and sell your stuff there. Just do a Google search for ones in your area and give them a call to see what they take.
START A BLOG
This one is NOT a quick way to make money but its a great way to earn money down the line once you’ve built up your blog and monetized it. If you’re not sure what a blog is, you’re reading one right now :).
My blog is about budgeting, saving, and making money but you can blog about whatever it is that you’re passionate about.
If you’re interested in learning how to start a blog and how to make money from it, then one of my favorite resources is Blog by Number.
But if you want to see what this blogging thing is all about before you spend any money on a course, check out this free resource.
The Blog Plan will help you discover what type of blog you should start and explain exactly how a blog makes money.
BECOME A VIRTUAL ASSISTANT
Maybe you don’t want to go the blog route, why not be a VA?
Not sure what exactly a VA is? VA stands for virtual assistant and basically means that you’re helping someone out from home remotely. You have a service to offer (writing, scheduling, making phone calls, etc.), they are in need of your service and you make a deal to trade time (or task) for pay.
There are TONS of services that can fall under the VA or virtual assistant umbrella – services like social media, email or blog management, graphic creation, accounting… the list goes on!
Virtual Assistants are in demand! I may be hiring one for some tasks for my blog in the next year and I know lots of other bloggers and entrepreneurs who use them as well.
If you want to learn more about being a virtual assistant and what types of services you could offer then grab this free resource called 4 Quick Steps to Jumpstart Your Virtual Assistant Business.
BECOME A FREELANCE WRITER
Do you love writing? Get paid as a freelance writer and write for others. It’s a super flexible way to earn some extra money while working on your own schedule.
I personally do not love writing (why do I blog?) but I love helping others so I write on my blog to do just that. BUT if you love to write and are good at it, you can make some really great money in your spare time or as a full-time business.
If you’re interested in finding out how to become a freelance writer, check out How to Become a Paid Freelance Writer for all the details.
TEACH ENGLISH ONLINE
If you love helping kids then this is a great way to earn some extra cash!
How? A company called VIPKID provides an international language learning experience to children in China and hires teachers (you) to teach one on one English lessons.
You can earn up to $22 an hour and create your own schedule which is awesome.
For this one, you do need to have a bachelor’s degree but it could be in any area, not just teaching.
If you want to find out more about teaching online and teaching with VIPKid, check them out here.
GET PAID TO SHOP
You’re shopping anyway why not get some extra cash for it?
This one won’t earn you a ton of money but you can definitely earn some spending money.
Below are my favorite ways to earn money by shopping. All will give you a bonus just for signing up and they are FREE!
Get paid for your receipts! There are a ton of coupon apps out there but my two favorites are Ibotta and Fetch Rewards.
You can earn a bonus right now by signing up for Ibotta. Sign up here.
Ibotta is a coupon app that will give you money for certain products you buy, scan, and upload your receipt for. You can check out my full review on Ibotta here.
Another great app I love is Fetch Rewards which pays you just to scan receipts! It works for ANY grocery receipt. Just take a picture of your receipt each time you purchase groceries and you’ll earn points.
Accumulate points and redeem them for free rewards to hundreds of popular retailers (I usually choose Amazon).
TIP! Want 2000 points to start (you only need 3000 for your first gift card) then use my referral code: ESAVINGS when you sign up here!
I sit down at night and scan whatever receipts I happened to have in my wallet and watch my points add up. Check out my full review of Fetch Rewards.
Last but certainly not least is Rakuten (formally Ebates). Rakuten is great for earning cashback on any online shopping you do.
Plus earn a $10 Bonus for signing up using my referral link here (you’re welcome)!
As you can see in my screenshot below, I’ve earned over $763 so far since being a member.
Check out my full Rakuten review for more details if you’re still on the fence.
FREE MONEY! You can earn the equivalent of $22 ($10 each for Ibotta and Rakuten and $2 in points for Fetch) just for signing up for these three websites or apps today!
Easy right?

Good choices and actually for anyone that wants to stay home working these are great options. I would incorporate affiliate marketing too and managing social networks.
